We have created a survey through Qualtrics for 5 Bridges that will gauge the publics’ knowledge, perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors. Understanding these things will allow us to make informed decisions about strategy and messaging. We will be surveying people 18 years of age or older who work in an organization with 500 or more employees. We will have about 350+ survey participants total. By conducting a survey, we will be able to attain specific data in a cost effective way. We hope to gain statistical data that we will use to develop strategies for 5 Bridges expansion into new markets. Each section has an introduction with directions and specific questions with various types of answer choices. We are able to gather specific data by using multiple choice, 7-point scales, likert scales, and fill-in-the-blank questions. The survey should only take participants about 15 minutes to complete.
The purpose of the knowledge section is to get an idea of the publics’ general knowledge and awareness of 5 Bridges as an organization, what their services are and how they provide those services. We also want to know what thoughts the participants have about the terms “mental health” and “holistic wellness”. The knowledge section consists of 18 multiple choice questions and two open-ended response questions. The main purposes of the open-ended response questions are to guide participants into the “perception” section that follows and to prepare them for the “mental health behaviors” section in a later part of the survey. In the directions for this section, we stated that although participants may not know the correct answer, they should choose the answer they think is “best”.
The purpose of the perception section is to get an idea of how the public views 5 Bridges. The beginning of the section contains the introductory message and a link to the 5 Bridges’ website to help provide insight for the participants. There is one question with 14 sets of words within the question. The semantic differential scales are five-point scales with opposing perceptions on the two sides, such as fun versus tedious or ordinary versus innovative. The “attitudes” section follows the “perception” section because views shape opinions and we want to get an idea of both. To complete this section, participants are encouraged to consider the statements on both sides of the scales and choose the point they think “best” reflects their perception of 5 Bridges.
The purpose of the attitudes section is to gauge the public’s attitudes/opinions toward 5 Bridges, mental health, and some competitors’ mental health programs. The attitudes section consists of 23 questions with five answer options on a scale ranging from “strongly disagree” to “strongly agree.” This type of measurement works best for this section because attitudes/opinions are not always black and white; this measurement allows for participants to give more specific data. To best complete this section, participants are to answer each question truthfully using this scale, keeping in mind that all answers are kept confidential. Because the perception section aims to get the publics’ views on 5 Bridges, the attitudes section follows and intends to get an idea on the publics’ opinions on topics relating to 5 Bridges. The behavior section follows the attitude section to smoothly transition from asking how the publics think to how the publics behave.
Mental Health Behaviors
The purpose of the mental health behaviors section is to get an idea for how the publics feel about mental health and wellness. This section also gathers data about how the organizations they work for feel about mental health, and if their employers offer them any wellness or mental health resources, and how comfortable employees are using these resources and asking for the help they need. This section has twelve questions that are designed to gauge the comfort levels of employees, as well as get honest feedback about what they would find helpful in their workplace. This section begins with asking participants to answer truthfully- reminding them their answers are confidential. This section is answered in Likert Scales and Open Ended Questions. This section transitions participants to the media behaviors section.
The purpose of the media behaviors section is to determine the publics’ media usages, and the most effective way to engage the publics where they spend their time. This section gives us insight into where 5 Bridges’ messages would most likely be received by their target audience. This section has seven questions. Five of these questions are seven point Likert Scale questions, with participants rating their likelihood to follow along with a campaign using the methods described. Each question has several different methods to rate. The last two questions deal with the participants’ opinions on using Zoom or other similar apps for training and communication. These questions will help us determine if participants feel comfortable with the online connection of the program or if it would be better suited to another format.
Our demographics section consists of 14 questions. These questions are important to our research because it can give us insight into who is taking the survey. In order to get the most specific and accurate responses, these questions are a combination of fill-in-the-blank, 7-point scales, and nominal. When creating these questions, it was important to list all possible answers so that no participant’s information was left out. Many of these questions ask personal information like income, political affiliation and employment status, so we included a confidentiality statement in the directions for this section. This is the final section of the survey. After this section, we thank the participants and let them know their answers have been recorded.
